About Me
I’m a Black Female Voice Actor who began doing voice work in 2009. I have voiced hundreds of projects for commercials, e-learning, and corporate narration. I’m also the narrator of several audiobooks, including The Hundred Thousand Kingdoms Trilogy by N.K. Jemisin. For me, voice work (or anything I do) is rooted in service. In fact, I began my training in voiceover by volunteering at Recording for the Blind and Dyslexic in a suburb of Detroit, MI, my hometown. Voice work is about telling a story well and truly connecting an audience to the text, no matter the genre.
I love acting and because I’m always looking for a way to fuse it with the need to have culturally competent, accessible forms of information and media for everyone, I’ve completed Audio Description training with the Audio Description Institute, Descriptathon 10 and Dark Room Ballet’s Audio Description for Dance.
My passion for acting and the transformative ways a well told story impacts humanity, comes from the theatre. I’m a 25 year veteran of the stage and vocal booth. As a stage actor, I’ve won numerous awards for Best Lead Actress, Best Supporting Actress and Best Director. I’ve been a company member and resident artist at countless theatres including the Detroit Repertory Theatre, Alabama Shakespeare Festival and the Purple Rose. As a director, I’ve guided plays such as Williston, Who Will Sing for Lena, Flyin’ West, The Safe House and The Mountaintop. Publications have reviewed my performances and said I am “Completely believable, sometimes, heartbreakingly so…”, “Casaundra Freeman excels in her role” and ‘Freeman reaches career topping heights and is especially good at juggling dialects’.
In 2020, I founded Work With Your Voice (WWYV), a comprehensive voiceover training course, to give my theatre friends a safe avenue to get back to work, after the pandemic shuttered theatres across the country. In the fall of 2023, I expanded WWYV to include Work With Your Voice – Black Woman Edition, because I want to give other Black women the opportunity to explore their creativity and access freedom through the medium of voiceover, in ways that are culturally specific.
I’m also a socio-cultural anthropologist, who has represented my city and other institutions by traveling to over 30 countries. So, it makes sense that now that I’m a mother, I worldschool my two incredible teenagers. We are currently based in Mexico. Though I have to tell you, I’ve not been anywhere that is better than Detroit…in the summer.
There are so many more of my stories I could tell, about being an advocate for the arts, anti-racism, women’s rights and much more.
But those are my stories and the truth is…I’d love to work together and help you tell yours.
